Many Colombians and foreigners will be preparing their suitcases to take advantage of the holiday season and travel to different national and international destinations. For this reason, it is important that travelers prepare in advance to avoid inconveniences when leaving or entering the country during the holiday season and keep in mind not only the time of presentation at the airport before departure of the flight, but also the documents to be presented to the competent authorities such as travel documents, identification and permission to leave minors. Similarly, considering the increase in the flow of people during this time, mechanisms may be used to facilitate the exit and entry of the country by means of Automatic Migration or automatic control and biometrics (BIOMIG).
Departure Permit for minors
While all travelers must present on departure their original identification document, a valid passport or travel document and valid visa or permit, depending on the destination, it should be noted that minors may have additional requirements to those mentioned above. In this case, the civil registry of birth must be presented to prove kinship, the identity card for those over the age of 7 and the exit permit signed by the parent(s) who is not traveling with the minor.
Thus, when the minor travels with only one of their parents or another person, the parent not accompanying the minor must sign a permit, which must be authenticated by a Notary Public, if subscribed in Colombia, or legalized before the consular authority or apostilled, if granted abroad. This permit must contain the following information: city and date granted, express authorization to leave the country, full name of the minor, identification number, place of destination, purpose of the trip, date of departure and return to the country, as well as full name and identification number of the person traveling with the minor.
In the event that only one of the parents have legal custody, the duly executed sentence issued by the judge must be presented to prove it and, in the event of the death of one or both parents, the death record must be presented.
To facilitate the document authentication process, the Colombian government recently opened two public notaries inside the El Dorado International Airport (79th and 80th), which serve 24 hours a day, every day of the week.
Automatic Migration for Colombians and foreigners
The automatic migration is a mechanism of facilitation, prioritization and migratory attention, for national and foreign travelers, who after making a biometric registry will be able to benefit from this tool avoiding long lines during the processes to enter or leave the country, allowing to carry out the process of migratory control in less than 30 seconds.
It should be noted that this benefit only applies to foreigners who have a Colombian visa with a validity not less than 2 years.
Biometric Authentication for Colombians
Another migration facilitation mechanism that only applies to Colombians is BIOMIG, a procedure that takes biographical and biometric data from the iris and allows for the emigration or immigration of nationals in an efficient and rapid manner.
